Free Instagram DM Automation: Compare Limits
Dayrect helps your Instagram page send a configured DM when someone comments a chosen word, answer comments, and keep conversations in one inbox. If you are looking for free instagram dm automation, the useful question is which free plan fits the way your page actually works.
Disclosure: Dayrect publishes this comparison. Prices and limits were checked 28 Oct 2026.
In short
- A contact count and a DM-send count measure different things.
- A trial has an end date; an ongoing free plan does not expire just because trial days run out.
- Estimate your own unique contacts, sends, AI use and channel needs before choosing.
What does “free Instagram DM automation” mean?
These offers can automate a reply to a comment or message, but “free” describes different arrangements. Some services list an ongoing $0 tier. Others offer a temporary trial, which ends after a set period. A plan may count people who message your page, messages sent, comments checked, enabled automations, or AI use. Those measures cannot be swapped as if they were all message quotas.
For example, a page might send several replies to one person. A unique-contact allowance may count that person once for the period, while a DM-send quota may count each send. Comment moderation credits measure comments processed, not DMs. Read the meter and the included channels alongside the headline price.
If your goal is to send a promised link after a word appears in a comment, see the Instagram comment-to-DM guide. A follow check can be an optional part of a flow; it is not required for every automation. The follow-before-link guide explains that option. For copy to adapt, use the comment link message template.
Compare what each free limit counts
The table uses each provider's own meter and terms. “Unknown” means the dated comparison sheet did not verify that detail. Vendor terms are not Instagram rules.
| Product | Ongoing free plan or trial | What the limit counts and allowance | Channels |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dayrect | Ongoing $0 plan | 1 Instagram account; 1,000 active contacts/month; 5 active automations; 100 AI actions/month. A contact has at least one inbound or outbound message in the UTC calendar month. Deterministic messages have no separate per-DM quota within the contact allowance. | |
| ManyChat | $0 plan; new model availability may vary by region/account | 25 active contacts/month; 4 live automations; 1 user. Repeated messages to one active person count once per monthly billing period. | Instagram, Facebook Messenger, TikTok, Telegram, WhatsApp, SMS and email; eligible channels depend on plan. Official pricing · subscription guide |
| LinkDM | Ongoing $0 plan | Up to 1,000 DM sends/month; the meter counts DMs, not unique contacts. 1 Instagram account. | Instagram and Facebook. Official pricing |
| CreatorFlow | Ongoing $0 plan; separate paid-plan trial | 500 automated DMs/month and unlimited automations on Free. Its 14-day paid-plan trial requires a payment method. | Instagram. Official pricing · help FAQ |
| Inrō | Ongoing €0 plan; separate Pro trial | 100 activated contacts/month, 3 active scenarios, 3 campaigns/month and 50 AI credits (up to 100 after onboarding per pricing FAQ). Its 14-day Pro trial has a separate 1,000-contact allowance. | Instagram. Official pricing · billing help |

Think of the meters as separate counters:
- Contacts = distinct people active during the provider's stated period.
- DM sends = messages sent, which can include more than one to a person.
- AI actions = model-use units; not every fixed, deterministic DM uses one.
- Trial days = time remaining in a temporary offer, not contacts or sends.
- Comment credits = comments processed under the provider's rules.
Choose by your page's monthly workload
Start with a normal month, not your busiest day. Estimate how many different people will have an inbound or outbound message, how many automated DMs you expect to send, and whether replies need AI or fixed wording.
- A small audience and a few repeat workflows: compare the active-contact meter and automation slots. ManyChat's listed free plan counts active contacts and offers multi-channel coverage; Dayrect's Free plan has its own contact and enabled-automation allowances. If you mostly need to greet people or share one link, a prepared manual reply may be enough.
- Many messages to the same people: look closely at definitions. ManyChat says repeated messages to one active person count once for its monthly active-contact meter. LinkDM and CreatorFlow publish send quotas, so repeated sends use that type of allowance. Do not treat 1,000 contacts as equivalent to 1,000 DMs.
- High automated DM volume: forecast sends separately from unique recipients. LinkDM publishes up to 1,000 monthly sends on Free, while CreatorFlow lists 500 automated DMs/month. If your estimate exceeds an offer's allowance, compare its listed paid tier or consider another tool; do not assume a free meter will stretch.
- More than Instagram: channel breadth may matter more than a larger single-channel quota. ManyChat lists Instagram plus Facebook Messenger, TikTok, Telegram, WhatsApp, SMS and email, with eligible channels depending on plan. LinkDM lists Instagram and Facebook. Choose based on the channels you actually use.
- Comment moderation rather than private messages: CommentWatchDog's trial measures comments processed. It may fit a cleanup or moderation job, but comment credits do not tell you how many DMs you can send.
- AI-generated replies: check a separate AI allowance and decide which comments need generated text. Dayrect's Free tier includes 100 AI actions a month. The AI comment replies guide explains how that differs from a prepared keyword DM. If the task is a specific price request, see price comments to DM and the price-list DM template.
When your expected usage is consistently above a free allowance, compare the relevant paid plan and its billing period before connecting. A paid plan may be more suitable than splitting a workflow across tools. On the other hand, if replies are infrequent or need personal context, manual replies can be simpler than setting up automation.
How Dayrect's Free allowance works
Dayrect Free costs $0 and includes one Instagram account, 1,000 active contacts per month, five active automations, and 100 AI actions per month. No card is needed to start. Creator is $15 a month, or $12 a month when billed yearly; see current plan terms.
An active contact is a person with at least one inbound or outbound message during the UTC calendar month. It is a person count, not a message count. If the same person exchanges multiple messages, the contact definition still describes that person for the month. The allowance renews by calendar month.
AI actions are separate. One AI action is a model call recorded by the service. Fixed keyword responses and other deterministic messages do not consume one action for every DM; AI use depends on the feature and its usage rules. Free's 100 actions are a monthly AI allowance, not a cap of 100 DMs.
Five active automations means five enabled rules. This is another kind of limit: it measures configured rules, not the number of people or messages. Use a few focused rules for the page's real requests, then review pricing if your contact volume, AI needs or account count calls for a paid tier.
Frequently asked questions
Is one contact the same as one DM?
No. A contact is a person under that provider's definition; a DM quota counts sends. A person may receive multiple messages, so compare the unit and period each service states.
Does Dayrect Free cap DMs at 1,000?
No. It allows 1,000 monthly active contacts. That counts people with a message in or out in the UTC calendar month, not the number of DMs sent. Deterministic messages do not have a separate per-DM quota within that contact allowance.
Are AI actions DMs?
No. AI actions are separate model-use units. Dayrect Free includes 100 per month, and a fixed deterministic DM does not automatically mean one AI action.
Is a free trial the same as a free plan?
No. An ongoing $0 plan and a time-limited trial are different offers. The comparison sheet lists CreatorFlow's 14-day paid-plan trial with a payment method, Inrō's 14-day Pro trial with a separate 1,000-contact allowance, and CommentWatchDog's 7-day trial with no card. A trial ends; do not assume the trial terms continue as a free plan.
Which tool should a small page choose?
Match the provider's actual meter and channels to your expected monthly activity. Check whether you need unique-contact capacity, DM sends, comment moderation, multiple channels or AI. If activity is low and replies need personal judgment, manual replies may fit better; if you repeatedly exceed a limit, compare a paid plan or another tool. There is no universal winner.
Choose the counter that matches your workload, then check the provider's current terms before you start.
